Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava visited Syabrubesi near Chilime in Rasuwa on Thursday to observe ongoing tunnel excavation and search efforts at a hydropower project buried by the recent Bhotekoshi flood.
Srivastava said on social media that he met an Indian technical team deployed in Syabrubesi, near Chilime.
According to the ambassador, the technical teams have continued excavating a tunnel at the Chilime power house as part of the rescue and search operation. The Indian technical team, working alongside the Nepali Army, has used specialised equipment to search up to 100 metres inside the tunnel.
“The team plans to bring in heavy equipment to advance further into the tunnel,” Srivastava wrote.
He said he also observed first-hand the difficult conditions faced by the Nepali and Indian teams, including the challenging terrain and waterlogged ground where the operation is underway.
Despite the difficult circumstances, both the Indian and Nepali teams remain committed to the operation and are continuing their work, he said.
A devastating flood swept through the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers on Wednesday, September 10, affecting settlements and infrastructure along the river corridors.
The flood affected Timure, Syabrubesi and Betrawati in Rasuwa, as well as Trishuli Bazaar and Devighat in Nuwakot. Riverbank areas in Dhading, Chitwan and Gorkha were also affected.
Several hydropower projects were damaged by the flooding.
Srivastava visited Syabrubesi near Chilime to assess the situation on the ground and observe the ongoing search and rescue efforts being carried out by the Nepali and Indian teams.
