Indefinite curfew in Kalikot district headquarters over death of temporary cop

Kalikot, December 24

The Kalikot District Administration Office has clamped an indefinite curfew in Manma, the district headquarters, after locals intensified the protest over the death of a temporary policeman in a shooting on Friday.

Chief District Officer Badri Nath Gairhe says the curfew was lifted for two hours in the morning, but it has been imposed again indefinitely now. Garihe says the prohibitory order will remain effective till the situation turns back to normalcy.

Though the government has already formed an investigation team under the leadership of Ministry of Home Affairs Joint-Secretary Man Bahadur BK and decided to give Rs 1 million ex-gratia to the family, locals have been protesting with a demand to declare him a martyr and launch another investigation into alleged irregularities in the salary of temporary cops.

The kin have also demanded that people-elected representatives of the district be also made a part of the probe team.
