Kathmandu, October 23

The impeachmention motion against suspended CIAA Chief Commissioner Lokman Singh Karki has formally entered the Parliament.

At Sunday’s meeting of the Parliament, Speaker Onsari Gharti said the impeachment motion has been registered. She allotted time for first round of discussions on the motion — 9 am to 3 pm on Tuesday.

The plan was to fix time for discussion on the motion at Thursday’s meeting. But Speaker postponed the meeting as major political parties sought time for discussing the issue.

After discussions on the motion, it will be sent to just-formed Impeachment Recommendation Committee.

This committee will take CIAA Chief Karki’s statement and give him the opportunity to come clean on charges against him. If the committee recommends impeaching Lokman, the proposal will be presented in the Parliament. Karki will lose his job if the Parliament passes the motion with a two-third majority.

Altogether 157 lawmakers from the ruling CPN-Maoist Centre and the main opposition CPN-UML have registered the impeachment motion against Karki.
