Human Organ Transplant Centre transplants 800 kidneys in 9 years

Kathmandu, December 7

The Human Organ Transplant Centre, also known as the Shahid Dharmabhakta National Transplant Centre, in Bhaktapur has successfully transplanted kidneys on 800 people until Monday.

The institution achieved this success during its nine years of operation, the centre’s Executive Director Dr Pukar Chandra Shrestha says.

It is said that a team of senior kidney and liver transplant surgeon Dr Shrestha, senior nephrologist Dr Kalpana Shrestha, chief consultant urologist and transplant surgeon Dr Rakesh Kumar Barma, anesthesiologist Dr Arati Rai and nursing director Kopila Dahal of the Centre have been carrying out transplants currently.

According to Executive Director Shrestha, the transplant was 100 per cent successful on the part of organ donors while 98 per cent in kidney transplants.

The centre was established in 2012.
