A meeting of the Education and Health Committee in the House of Representatives

Kathmandu, March 24

A subcommittee under the Education and Health Committee in the House of Representatives has suggested that the government create various facilities at the federal and provincial levels to prevent epidemics in the future.

The subcommittee formed to monitor the government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic submitted its report to the committee on Wednesday. Lawmaker Jeevan Ram Shrestha who led the team says the report categorically mentions 18 points to improve the country’s preparedness against public health crises in the future.

Major suggestions include ensuring certain beds in each hospital for patients of infectious diseases, managing oxygen plants at all government and private hospitals, and mobilising a qualified workforce at remote places of the country.

Likewise, the government should establish permanent health checkup facilities at border points whereas the provincial government should be authorised to operate provincial hospitals, according to the report.
