House postpones discussion on removing Indian army from Kalapani

The Kali river on the Indian map

Kathmandu, March 12

The House of Representatives is not discussing a resolution motion about removing the Indian army from the disputed land of Kalapani on Thursday as scheduled earlier.

On Wednesday, the Federal Parliament Secretariat had listed the discussion on the tentative agenda for Thursday. However, it was removed from the final agenda published this morning.

A source says the discussion was removed from the agenda after Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, said he needed to consult other stakeholders about the issue.

Khaga Raj Adhikari, a lawmaker of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, had registered the motion after India’s move to publish its new political map triggered protests in Nepal in November last year. Another NCP lawmaker Ram Kumari Jhankri has seconded it.

Last week also, the topic was listed on the agenda but removed later.
