Kathmandu, July 8
The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee on Friday unanimously endorsed the name of Ayodhi Prasad Yadav for the position of Chief Election Commissioner.
The committee had conducted a hearing on Yadav at its meeting on Friday, paving the way for his appointment as the chief of the Commission.
As per the constitutional provision, President makes constitutional appointments once the committee endorses names forwarded by the Constitutional Council.
There were two complaints against Acting Chief Election Commissioner Yadav’s appointment as CEC. The complaints mentioned that a hearing should not be conducted on Yadav unless and until the Supreme Court issues its final verdict in a case challenging his reappointment. The PHSC opted for a hearing upon finding that the complainants had not mentioned contact numbers and email addresses in their complaint letters.
