HoR passes Bill to Raise Public Debt

House of Representatives - budget plan all-party meeting - budget session

Kathmandu, June 28

The House of Representatives (HoR) today passed the Bill to Raise Public Debt- 2083. The session unanimously endorsed a proposal presented by Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle towards this end. The Minister proposed the Lower House session to endorse the document.

In his response to concerns raised during the clause-wise deliberation on the Bill, the Finance Minister pledged to spend the collected debt on productive projects. “Foreign debts are specially meant for the development of infrastructure projects.

Such projects play roles in streamlining activities and achieving other positive results. However, the situation of the two international airports developed with such loans has resulted in different statuses. We must monitor them,” he added. Before this, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal presented the Bill before the session for a decision.

The amendment proposals regarding the Bill by lawmakers Parashuram Tamang and Rekha Kumari Yadav were rejected by the meeting, while Hari Prasad Bhusal withdrew his proposal. The Lower House was to meet again after 15 minutes today itself.
