Himalaya Airlines becomes first Nepali airline to fly to Beijing

Kathmandu, October 27

A Nepali airline has flown its first flight to Beijing on Sunday. Himalayan Airlines, a joint venture of Nepali and Chinese businesses, flew its first flight to the Chinese capital at 9 am on Sunday.

The airlines’ vice-president Vijaya Shrestha told Onlinekhabar that the first flight to China had 60 passengers. Even though Nepal Airlines Corporation flew to Shangai in the past, this is the first time that a registered Nepali airline has flown to the Chinese capital.

Shrestha also shared Himalaya Airlines was initially only flying two flights a week, every Tuesday and Friday, to Beijing. The aircraft will leave Kathmandu at around 9 am and will return to Kathmandu at around 10 pm. Shrestha said that they had a plan to increase the number of flights gradually.

“Right now, we’re only going for two flights a week which we will increase to three. Our aim to fly to Beijing every day,” Shrestha said.
