Heritage walk concluded with demonstration of installation art

Kathmandu, April 19

On Thursday, Patan Durbar Square in Lalitpur was decorated with 1,336 meters of rope. On World Heritage Day, artist Manish Lal Shrestha presented his installation art called ‘Project 1336‘ in Patan Durbar Square.

His art was also included in the ‘Heritage Walk’ under community art. His ‘Project 1336’ art was prepared in 2017. Before this, Shrestha has performed this art in the country and abroad. In Kathmandu, art exhibitions have been held at Maitighar, Nepal Art Council at Babarmahal, Taragaon Museum and the Buddhist Heritage Area.

His art has specifically addressed Kathmandu. Shrestha narrated that the concept of art was created with Kathmandu, which is at a height of 1,336 meters above sea level, in the centre. According to him, the long multi-coloured thread represents Kathmandu’s rich society, culture, caste and beauty. He said that an attempt was made to explore the meaning of unity and humanity in diversity through rope.

Maheshwar Lal Khansi, Executive Member of the Lalitpur Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Culture and Heritage Coordinator, said that the art exhibition was held to preserve, enhance and promote tangible and intangible heritage within the Lalitpur area. Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality, community and other organisations have cooperated in the ‘Heritage Walk’.
