Govt preparing new aviation policy

Kathmandu, October 22

The government has started work process to prepare a new aviation policy.

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation said that it will conduct a detailed study of aviation policies of SAARC countries before bringing out the new policy.

The policy will also incorporate international standards used in the aviation sector.

The ministry on October 16 formed a taskforce to come up with the draft of the policy, informed under-secretary Prakash Sharma Dhakal.

The taskforce will be led by former secretary Yagya Prasad Gautam and includes former Director-General of CAAN Ratish Chandra Lal Suman, NAC’s former Managing Director Raju KC, CAAN’s deputy Director-General Devanand Upadhaya, Airlines Operators Association of Nepal member Suman Pandey and senior pilot Dadhi Ram Niraula.

Tourism Ministry joint-secretary Suresh Acharya has been appointed as the member-secretary of the taskforce. The taskforce has been given two months to submit its first draft at the ministry.

In two months, the taskforce will hold two workshops with stakeholders and where it will seek suggestions to improve the current aviation policy.

The taskforce has already invited stakeholders to give suggestion via phone, email or in person.
