Govt orders all schools in Nepal painted yellow

Kathmandu, March 26

The government has ordered all school buildings in Nepal to be painted yellow.

The order is a part of government efforts to colour code schools across the country, officials at the Department of Education say. The government has already made it mandatory for school buses to be painted yellow.

The Department for Urban Development issued a colour code for buildings, including schools, five years ago, but it had not been implemented. The Department of Education recently decided to implement the code and wrote to all schools to comply with the code.

The directive says that the outer walls of the school need to be painted yellow. Similarly, the roof needs to be painted red, windows white or grey. The walls of the classrooms need to be painted in ‘cream’ or ‘ivory’ colour.

Similarly, the ceiling of the auditorium and the corridors need to be painted white.
