Govt introduces ‘land bank’ concept to utilise uncultivated land

Land Management Minister Padma Kumari Aryal speaks during a press meet in Kathmandu, on Friday, February 28, 2020.

Kathmandu, June 8

Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Padma Kumari Aryal, says the government has introduced a new concept of a ‘land bank’ in the annual budget plan for the next fiscal year to utilise the uncultivated land.

Responding to the lawmakers’ queries regarding the budget allocated to the ministry in the House of  Representatives meeting on Monday, the minister explained the concept, “We will implement this plan in an innovative and creative way. Under this plan, the landowners submit their unused land to the bank, which the interested people can use through the bank.”

The bank will create a win-win solution for both the landowners failing to use land and the farmers and other entrepreneurs looking for land, she argued.

Aryal hoped that this programme would help the youth returning home from other countries in the wake of the global Covid-19 crisis become entrepreneurs.
