As the nationwide lockdown imposed to control the coronavirus outbreak in the country is expiring after three days, the government authorities have begun a discussion on whether to extend it.

It is highly likely that the government will extend the lockdown as the number of Covid-19 patients has soared in the country in the past week. A minister, who is also a member of the high-level coronavirus control committee, says a meeting of the committee scheduled for Saturday will forward a recommendation to extend the lockdown.

Meanwhile, the high-level committee on Friday consulted health experts on how the virus spread can be controlled at the current situation.

“They said we do not need to panic because the number of cases increased. Identifying the cases that exist is better than them being unknown,” a minister says.

The experts have suggested that the government should prioritise the safety of health workers and expand the range of tests.
