Kathmandu, July 19
The government has failed to receive even half of the targets of foreign loans and foreign grants it had set for the recently concluded fiscal year 2020/21.
Preliminary calculations of the Ministry of Finance reveal that the government just received 45 per cent of the targeted foreign assistance (including both loans and grants), informs Finance Secretary Shishir Kumar Dhungana.
According to him, the government received Rs 139 billion in foreign loans against the target of Rs 299 billion. Likewise, it received Rs 24 billion as grants against the target of Rs 60 billion.
The ministry has analysed that the amounts remained way below the expectations as most of the assistance was focused on capital expenditure but the government performed very bad in spending the capital budget. There has been a gap of Rs 124 billion between the actual capital spending and the target.
