Govt committed to diplomatic solution to border dispute: PM tells Supreme Court

File: KP Sharma Oli

Kathmandu, December 18

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has told the Supreme Court that the government is committed to finding a solution to a recent border dispute with India through diplomatic communications.

Responding to the court’s order to furnish a written answer over the issue, the prime minister also claimed that diplomatic efforts were underway to solve the issue, hence the court’s intervention was not needed.

Earlier, advocate Kanchan Krishna Neupane had filed a case at the court, demanding that the court order the government to return its encroached land. But, the prime minister said, “Since needful efforts are underway for the safeguarding of Nepal’s border and the Nepali land, and the issue will be solved through diplomatic channels, the court needs not issuing any order. This writ deserves to be scrapped.”

He also added that the government recently formed a committee for border surveillance.
