Government yet to decide how to reopen Krishnabhir section of Prithvi Highway

Kathmandu, September 1

Three days after a section of road subsided, the government remains undecided on how to reopen the Prithvi Highway at Krishnabhir.

The Department of Roads said at a press conference on Tuesday that no final decision had yet been reached on reopening the highway.

According to the department’s Director General, Dr Bijay Jaisi, extensive discussions were held on Tuesday on how to restore the road, but no conclusion has been reached.

The closure of the Prithvi Highway has disrupted road connectivity with western Nepal. An alternative route through the highway connecting Hetauda is currently being used.

Jaisi said a decision on the next course of action at Krishnabhir would be made only after consultations with a geotechnical team. He said authorities would then decide whether to open a new track on the other side of the Trishuli River or adopt another solution.
