Kathmandu, June 2
The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has decided to ban heavy vehicles from taking to the streets in the Kathmandu Valley during office hours.
After the implementation of the rule, which will come into effect from June 16, trucks and tippers will have to remain off the road from 8 am to 7 pm. However, the rule will not be applicable on public holidays and for vehicles ferrying milk, water, chicken, petroleum products, and vegetables.
The department came up with the rule to curb traffic congestion around entry points of the valley.
“Kathmandu’s traffic is ever growing and heavy create a lot of congestion. We have asked all traffic police units to stop these vehicles from entering the valley,” said the department’s Director General Kumar Dahal.
The department has banned the operation of heavy vehicles inside and outside the ring road, inside Bhaktapur city, along the Chabahil – Jorpati, Gopi Krishna – Kapan, Narayangopal Chowk – Budanilkantha, Balaju Bypass – Goldhunga, Bagdol – Nakhu, Satdobato – Harisiddhi and Gwarko – Chapagaun routes.
With this new rule, vehicles coming into the valley will have to be parked away from the entry points.
