Ujyalo Nepal Party Chairperson Kulman Ghising has urged the government to expedite the restoration of electricity and road infrastructure damaged by floods and landslides.
Ghising made the call in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
He urged the government to prioritise the reconstruction of the power transmission system along the Trishuli and Kaligandaki corridors.
Ghising said the government should immediately introduce a clear action plan and provide necessary facilitation to maintain the confidence of domestic and foreign investors.
“This is not just a problem of one sector; it is a serious national challenge linked to the lives of citizens, national energy security and Nepal’s development journey. I draw the government’s attention to the need to take this issue seriously,” he wrote.
Saying that damage to transmission lines along the Trishuli and Kaligandaki corridors had put pressure on the overall electricity generation, transmission and supply system, Ghising said the government should give high priority to identifying and rebuilding transmission structures that can be restored immediately, as managing electricity demand could become challenging in the coming winter.
“During a crisis, we should not get caught up in minor issues. The country’s energy security, the lives of affected citizens and the restoration of damaged infrastructure must be given the highest priority,” he said.
