Get your resignation approved before nomination: EC to govt employees turned candidates

Kathmandu, April 28

The Election Commission has clarified that government employees wishing to contest in upcoming local level elections shall get their resignations approved before filing nominations for the polls.

The rule applies to any employee taking benefits from the state coffers including teachers of government schools and staff of corporations run by the government, according to Surya Prasad  Sharma, spokesperson at the constitutional body.

As the Commission has set the date of May 2 for filing nominations for the Phase-I elections scheduled for May 14, candidates aspiring to run in this phase have to get their resignations approved by May 1.

The Commission requires that such candidates have to attach the letter approving their resignation along with the nomination.
