Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has announced that the process for the party’s 15th General Convention formally began on Tuesday.

Thapa made the announcement while addressing a programme organised for election officers appointed in various districts for the upcoming General Convention.

He said the party has limited time to complete the convention process as it is bound by the Constitution, party statute and a court ruling.

“We do not have the luxury of time. We are bound by the Constitution and the party statute. The court’s decision has also been based on the convention being held from October 2,” Thapa said.

According to Thapa, the use of digital active membership records will make organising this year’s convention easier than in the past.

“We have to conduct the convention in a way that leaves no room for questions. From today, our convention process has formally begun,” he said.

Thapa said everyone involved would have to follow the election schedule prepared by the Election Committee.

He also said the party’s Central Working Committee has already finalised the date and venue for the General Convention.

The 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress will be held in Kathmandu from October 2 to 5.
