Kathmandu, September 6
Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has held separate discussions with former Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka and party leader Dr Shekhar Koirala.
A party leader said Thapa met former Vice President Khadka on Saturday and Koirala on Sunday.
According to a Nepali Congress office-bearer, Thapa held separate meetings with both leaders. “The president had already planned to meet Purna and Shekhar. The meetings have taken place. The president will brief the Working Committee on the issues discussed,” the leader told Onlinekhabar.
The party’s Working Committee is meeting today to discuss the upcoming General Convention as well as relief and reconstruction efforts following the flood.
The party is preparing to postpone the ward-level conventions by one week to continue dialogue with Khadka and Koirala. The lower-level conventions are likely to be rescheduled while keeping the date of the central General Convention—October 2 to 4—unchanged.
Khadka and Koirala do not appear to agree with the General Convention schedule proposed by the faction led by former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, which has proposed holding the convention in November.
Neither Khadka nor Koirala attended the meeting at which the Deuba faction proposed its General Convention schedule. They also did not participate in the final day of the national gathering organised by the Deuba faction.
