The Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal on Sunday unanimously elected its provincial lawmaker Lal Babu Raut as its parliamentary party leader in Province 2.

The party is preparing to form the government in the province in partnership with the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal; hence Raut is most likely to be elected the Chief Minister from the Provincial Assembly within next two weeks.

Though at least seven leaders expressed their wish for the parliamentary party’s top position, six others withdrew their names after the party’s central leaders called for consensus.

Raut represents Parsa district, where locals have launched a protest demanding that Birgunj be made the provincial capital. Therefore, his likely election to the position of Chief Minister is expected to balance the struggle between Janakpur and Birgunj.

The central vice-chairperson of Upendra Yadav-led party, Raut was a member of the second Constituent Assembly and he was known as an intellectual youth leader in Parliament.
