Flood damage disrupts East-West Highway in Mahottari, diversion implemented

Kathmandu, July 31

Flooding has severely damaged the Belgachhi Bridge in the Maithan Jungle area of Bardibas Municipality-5, Mahottari, resulting in the obstruction of the East-West Highway and causing significant inconvenience for travellers.

The District Police Office in Mahottari reported that a 5-6 foot section of the road on the southern side connected to the Belgachhi (Dhungre Khola) Bridge has collapsed, leading to a complete halt in transportation since last night.

In response to the highway damage, authorities have implemented a diversion from Maithan Chowk. Vehicles are now being rerouted from Maithan Chowk through Gaushala Road to Hulaki Road, and then to Kantibazar and Laxminiya, before rejoining the East-West Highway.

This temporary route aims to ensure continued movement and minimise disruption for travellers while repair work on the damaged section of the highway is underway.
