The Judicial Council on Tuesday nominated five persons for the vacant positions of justice at the Supreme Court.

Those nominated for the position include senior advocate Kumar Regmi, advocates Hari Phunyal and Manoj Kumar Sharma. Likewise, incumbent Patan High Court chief judge Prakash Dhungana and Surkhet High Court judge Sushma Lata Mathema have also been nominated for the position.

It has been learned that the Council picked Phunyal and Sharma to represent the leftist political stream and Regmi to represent the democratic school of thought. Phunyal served as the Attorney General during KP Sharma Oli’s first premiership.

They will be appointed to the positions after the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee endorses their names.

Meanwhile, the Council also nominated 18 persons for vacant positions of judge at various high courts of the country.
