Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has challenged critics to prove allegations that information about a tax increase on electric vehicles was leaked in advance, stating that he is prepared to leave public life if the accusation is substantiated.
Speaking at a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee on Thursday morning, Wagle dismissed claims that information regarding a planned tax hike had been leaked, describing the allegation as “nonsense.”
“If anyone can bring evidence, I am ready to stand in the dock,” he said.
Referring to accusations of financial wrongdoing, Wagle added, “People casually talk about billions and trillions. Not two billion rupees—if it is proven that Swarnim Wagle has committed wrongdoing involving even two rupees anywhere, I am prepared to resign not only as Finance Minister and Member of Parliament but to withdraw from public life altogether. That is my challenge.”
He also said he wished other lawmakers would have the same level of confidence and courage to make a similar commitment.
