Finally, govt attorney registers Surendra Yadav’s abduction complaint

L-R: Mahesh Basnet, Sarbendra Khanal and Kisan Shrestha

Kathmandu, May 4

Around one week after its own refusal, the Kathmandu District Government Attorney Office has registered a complaint against two lawmakers of the ruling Nepal Communist Party and a former chief of Nepal Police.

People’s Socialist Party Nepal lawmaker Surendra Yadav has filed the complaint against lawmakers Mahesh Basnet and Krishna Kumar Shrestha ‘Kisan’ and former Nepal Police IGP Sarbendra Khanal, claiming they abducted and held him hostage.

Earlier last week, the Metropolitan Police Range in Kathmandu and the government attorney office both had refused to register the complaint citing the incident did not take place in Kathmandu. Following that, Yadav had filed a complaint at the National Human Rights Commission.

But today, the office registered the complaint, Assistant District Attorney Numaraj Khanal says, adding the office will not study the complaint and tell the police to investigate if necessary.

Earlier today, the three accused had told the commission that they did not abduct Yadav as alleged.
