Federal Alliance activists beat up and injured two pedestrians at Maitighar Mandala on Monday.

The two — Prakash Adhikari and Ram Prasad Poudel of Arghakhanchi — are doing BSc and MBS from Tri-Chandra College and Shankar Dev Campus, Kathmandu.

Poudel has suffered serious eye injuries and is receiving treatment at the emergency ward of the Annapurna Neuro Hospital.

Adhikari has suffered injuries in his head and body in the attack. Police have rescued him from the attackers and kept him at a house near Mandala.

The two students said they were living in rented accommodations at Maitedevi. They said they came under attack while they were searching for a hostel where they could shift.

“Police had advised us not to head towards the protest hotspot, but we said we wanted to watch the movement in progress. We came under attack while we were walking on the footpath,” Adhikari said. “Alliance activists beat us with sticks and helmets. They kicked and punched us.”

However, protesters claimed that the two were police personnel.

Alliance leaders claimed the two were pelting police with stones in a bid to make the peaceful movement violent by inviting police action.
