Kathmandu, May 18

The Federal Alliance said on Wednesday that the second phase of its movement will last 10 days as a meeting of the alliance concluded that the movement for identity has reached what it called a ‘decisive stage’. The meeting concluded that the movement has gained strength because different forces, which were fighting for their causes separately, have come together this time around.

It said the movement will be peaceful. Alliance leader Rajendra Shrestha said they will announce the 10-day strife by organising a public gathering at Shanti Batika, Ratnapark, at 1 pm on Wednesday. He said leaders are currently discussing the details.

As part of its movement, the alliance has already taken its protests close to nerve centres like Singhadurbar, the government secretariat, and Baluwatar, Prime Minister’s Official Residence.

Sporadic acts of violence have taken place in the largely peaceful Kathmandu-centric movement.

Meanwhile, the alliance is preparing to take the movement back to districts, in view of logistical problems, a source said.
