engineer-election

Kathmandu, September 16

Voting began on Friday morning for election of new leadership of Nepal Engineers’ Association, the umbrella organisation of engineers. The polling began at 8 am and will conclude at 6 pm.

The Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Centre, Naya Shakti Nepal and Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party have their own panels contesting the elections.

In the last NEA poll, Nepali Congress had emerged victorious.

This time, there are 12, 164 voters, but only around 7, 500 are likely to cast their votes, Binod Bhattarai, former member of the association, said.

The Centre and Naya Shakti are likely to get 500 votes each, while NWPP is likely to get 300 votes.

Whoever wins more than 3,000 votes is likely to win this time. The main contest for leadership positions will be between panels close to the Congress and the UML.
