With the government making embossed number plates mandatory, the Department of Transport Management has informed that installation services are currently available at nine transport offices.

According to the department, in Bagmati Province, embossed plates are being installed at the Transport Management Office Ekantakuna, Lalitpur; the Transport Service Office Hetauda, Makwanpur; the Transport Management Office Gurjudhara; and the Vehicle Testing Office Teku.

In Gandaki Province, installation has started at the Transport Management Office Kaski, Pokhara. In Lumbini Province, the service is available at the Transport Management Offices Rupandehi-Butwal, Dang-Tulsipur, and Banke-Nepalgunj. In Karnali Province, installation has begun from the Transport Management Office Surkhet.

From September 17, installation will also begin at seven additional offices. In Sudurpaschim Province, the service will be available at the Transport Management Offices Dhangadhi and Kanchanpur. In Madhesh Province, it will start from the Transport Management Office Lahan, Siraha. In Bagmati Province, Chitwan will begin the service, while in Koshi Province, it will start at Sunsari-Itahari and Jhapa-Birtamod.

A recent ministerial-level thematic committee meeting of the federal and provincial governments has decided to make embossed number plates mandatory for vehicle registration, transfer of ownership, and renewal starting September 17. The department has urged vehicle owners to visit their nearest office at a convenient time to install the plates.

The department said that, in the near future, all vehicles will be equipped with embossed number plates, leading to the digitisation of vehicle records. To support this, the government is constructing RFID gates at 10 major entry points across the country, including two in Kathmandu, which have already been completed and brought into use.
