Election Commission says preparations for Wednesday polls over

Kathmandu, June 27

The Election Commission says preparations for the second phase of local level elections scheduled for Wednesday have been over.

The constitutional body has appealed to all voters of provinces 1, 5 and 7 to cast their votes confidently.

Organising a special press meet on the eve of voting day, Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav said voters would be allowed to cast their voters on the basis of government-authorised identity cards including citizenship certificate, driving licence, passport, land registration certificate or old voter ID cards if they did not have new voter ID cards.

Those who have names on the voters’ list can cast their votes from 7 am to 5 pm tomorrow at respective voting booths.

41 elected unopposed

Meanwhile, the Commission informed that as many as 41 candidates in the second phase of local level elections have already been elected unopposed.

Total 62,408 candidates including those unanimous winners have filed nominations for 15,038 positions in 334 local units in three provinces.

There are 6 million 432,765 votes in these provinces. Total 4,581 voting stations and 8,364 voting centres have been established.
