Drinking water treatment plant installed at Jhapa school

Kathmandu, June 27

A drinking water treatment plant has been installed at a school in Jhapa. Work for Nepal, with financial support from Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD), installed the plant at Jana Aadarsha Secondary School, Shivasatakshi-6, Jhapa, on Friday.

An event was organized on the school premises to mark the installation of the plant. The programme was chaired by Manoj Khulal Karki, Ward Chair of Shivasatakshi Municipality-6.

Speaking at the event, Karki expressed his gratitude to both organizations.

“Previously as well, we have received various forms of support from different organizations. However, this support is especially important because the number of students at the school has recently increased, and we’ve been working to provide safe and healthy drinking water for them and for the entire school community. This water treatment plant will play a significant role in achieving that,” said Karki.

Similarly, Jiba Prasad Pokhrel, Programme Manager at HHRD, stated that they have been actively working on such projects for the past five to six years.

“Through our work, we realized that access to clean drinking water remains a challenge in rural areas. Recognizing the need to address this, we decided to install the drinking water treatment plant,” said Pokhrel. “I believe this facility will help provide clean water on a larger scale. In the future, we will continue to bring similar programs.”

According to Dinesh Sangroula, Treasurer at Work for Nepal, the total cost of installing the drinking water treatment plant was Rs 6,50,000.
