DPM Pokharel stresses regulating ‘bulldozer culture’

Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokharel addresses a National Assembly meeting in Kathmandu, on Thursday, December 26, 2019.

Kathmandu, February 9

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Ishwar Pokharel, says the government now needs to regulate the haphazard use of construction equipment such as excavators and bulldozers, saying it has affected the country’s environment.

Addressing the inaugural session of Sagarmatha National Sambaad organised by the government in Kathmandu on Sunday, the DPM termed the current practice of construction as a ‘bulldozer culture’ stressing its effective regulation. Pokharel was the view that the country was affected by climate change and the culture aggravated the impacts.

Likewise, the government should also engage university students in such discussions, according to him.

Ahead of the first edition of the Sagarmatha Sambaad event scheduled for April 2-4, the government hosted the national dialogue on Sunday. Following the April event, the government plans to host it every two years.
