Distance education for Nepali schoolkids will formally begin Monday

Kathmandu, June 14

Nearly three months into the nationwide lockdown with no signs of resuming schools anytime soon, the government has introduced regular television shows targeting school children from the first to the 10th grades.

“We have already published a schedule for these grades,” informs Tulasi Prasad Thapaliya, the director-general of the Centre for Education and Human Resource Development under the Ministry of Education. The schedule is available on the centre’s website.

According to the schedule, the government is using NTV+ channel to teach the students of grade one to eight. Likewise, the students of ninth and 10th grades should watch ‘School Education’ channels of Dish Home, NET TV, and Max TV.

For now, the shows have been scheduled for one month.

Meanwhile, many local government authorities are using local FM stations to teach children, Thapaliya informs. “Radio Nepal and Kantipur FM are also beginning their shows tomorrow.
