‘Dimagi Naxal Party’ goes viral after Modi’s remarks, gains 170,000 followers

Kathmandu, August 17

A new Instagram account named ‘Dimagi Naxal Party’ has suddenly gained popularity, amassing more than 170,000 followers within just a few days of its launch. The page is currently unavailable on Instagram. Before it was taken down, the page had claimed that it had been subjected to multiple cyberattacks.

The account, @dimaginaxalparty, described itself as the official page of the ‘Dimagi Naxal Party’. Its slogan was “Think, Research, Resist.” Its bio listed the founder as ‘A Dimagi Indian’ and the co-founder as ‘56 Inch Ka’. The account also directed users to the X account @DNJP_India.

As of Monday, the page had 65 posts and followed 35 accounts. The account was created in August. It is not known who operated it. The account followed several prominent figures, including comedian Kunal Kamra, YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, actor Prakash Raj, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, actress Sonakshi Sinha, comedian Shyam Rangeela, activist Sonam Wangchuk and journalist Ravish Kumar. It also followed an organisation called CJP.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi used the term ‘Dimagi Naxal’ in his Independence Day address. The account appeared a few days after his remarks. Speaking from the Red Fort, Modi said armed Naxalism had been eliminated from the forests but that ‘Dimagi Naxals’ still existed.

He said people with Maoist ideology were occupying positions in government institutions and influencing policies. He urged people to identify and isolate such individuals. His remarks sparked a political debate between BJP and opposition leaders. Former Home Minister P Chidambaram wrote on X, “I am proud to be a Dimagi Naxal.” He described the term as a new label similar to ‘Urban Naxal’ and the ‘Tukde Tukde Gang’.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju clarified that Prime Minister Modi had not referred to opposition leaders as ‘Dimagi Naxals’. He said the term was being used for people who support Maoists, reject the Constitution and seek to divide the country.

Earlier, another social media account called ‘Kakroach Janata Party’ had also gone viral. The new account emerged after that. The Kakroach Janata Party has announced a ‘School Thik Karo’ campaign aimed at improving the condition of government schools.
