‘Deserving’ employees of select government offices in Nepal to get encouragement allowance

Karmachari

Kathmandu, July 14

The KP Oli government, which faces a no-confidence motion in the Parliament, is busy making importat decisions.

The government has decided on providing what it calls ‘encouragement allowance’ to employees of five ‘important’ offices. As per the decision, ‘deserving’ employees at the President’s Office, the Vice-president’s Office, Public Procurement Monitoring Office, National Vigilence Centre and the National Reconstruction Authority will get the allowance based on performance indices.

These employees will get up to 50 per cent of their salaries as encouragement allowance.

‘Deserving’ secretaries of village development committees will also get up to 50 per cent of their salaries as encouragement allowance, depending on their performance.

Not so long ago, the government was in the mood of denying encouragement allowance to employees of the five offices. However, it decided in favour of giving the perks owing to pressure from employees concerned.

There are several offices with heavier workloads other than these five offices, including transport management offices and land revenue offices. But employees of these offices do not get such perks.
