Kathmandu, July 3

Notorious gangster Rajeev Gurung alias Deepak Manange who won a provincial parliamentary seat from Manang district in Gandaki province in the 2017 elections is all set to join the ruling Nepal Communist Party.

Manange had won the election with the support of the NCP.

Gandaki Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung will welcome him to the party on Thursday, according to sources.

Manange is convicted of an attempt to murder. However, the Supreme Court released him in December last year. Amidst the controversy about the validity of his victory, he had taken the oath of office and secrecy just a few months ago.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party Nepal leader Kalpana Dhamala and Devendra Parajuli are also preparing to join the ruling party. The leaders were dissatisfied with the party leadership since its formation after the unification between Naya Shakti Party and Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal.
