Decisive movement next if government does not keep its promise: Dr Govinda KC

Dr.-Govinda-KC

Kathmandu, July 25

Right after breaking his 16-day hunger strike meant to press the state for reforms in Nepal’s medical education, Dr Govinda KC, orthopaedic surgeon at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, said his movement will continue.

Dr KC said this on Monday, while accepting juice from his patients. He described the current phase of his movement as preliminary round.

“I launched this movement in a bid to make quality medical education and quality health services accessible for all Nepalis,” Dr KC said, warning that the movement will intensify if the recent agreement (reached with the government yesterday) is not implemented.

Dr KC said he will launch a decisive movement by taking food from now on instead of staging a hunger strike.

He said the youths should wake up now, pointing that leaders of political parties are with the (medical) mafia.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, which is supposed to control corruption, is deeply involved in corruption, Dr KC said. He flayed suppression of protests that doctors and students had staged in front of the CIAA headquarters.
