Australian cricket star David Warner is set to play for Kathmandu Gorkhas in the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
Kathmandu Gorkhas announced Warner’s signing through its social media platforms. The 39-year-old becomes the biggest international cricket star to feature in the NPL so far.
The announcement comes after Australian cricket organisation Sim Strike had earlier posted that Warner would play in the NPL. Warner had also liked the post.
Kathmandu Gorkhas had subsequently dropped hints about the identity of its marquee overseas signing, with the clues pointing towards Warner. Onlinekhabar had also reported on the possibility of the Australian opener joining the franchise.
David Warner is one of Australia’s most decorated modern cricketers. He has won two ODI World Cups, a T20 World Cup and the World Test Championship with Australia.
He was part of Australia’s World Cup-winning teams in 2015 and 2023, the T20 World Cup-winning side in 2021 and the team that won the World Test Championship in 2023.
Warner is also among the few Australian players to have scored international centuries across all three formats.
He played 110 T20 internationals for Australia, scoring more than 3,200 runs, including one century.
Across his T20 career, Warner has played 439 matches, scoring more than 14,000 runs with 10 centuries and 118 half-centuries.
The left-handed opener has extensive experience in franchise cricket around the world. He has played in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), The Hundred in England, Major League Cricket in the United States, Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and Vitality Blast.
Warner’s arrival is expected to bring significant international attention to the upcoming edition of the NPL and Kathmandu Gorkhas.
