Kathmandu, September 12
Australian cricket star David Warner is reportedly set to play in the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL), with speculation over his participation gaining momentum on social media.
According to information obtained from an Australian source, Warner’s arrival in Nepal for the NPL is almost certain. However, it has not yet been officially confirmed which franchise he will represent.
Social media speculation has linked the 39-year-old former Australian opener with Kathmandu Gorkhas.
Australian cricket page Seam Strike has also posted on Instagram claiming that Warner will play in the NPL. Warner himself has liked the post, further fuelling speculation about his participation.
If confirmed, Warner would become the biggest international name to feature in the NPL.
A T20 icon
Warner has enjoyed a highly successful international career with Australia, winning two ODI World Cups, a T20 World Cup and the World Test Championship.
He was part of Australia’s World Cup-winning teams in 2015 and 2023, won the T20 World Cup in 2021 and the World Test Championship in 2023.
Warner is also among the few Australian players to have scored centuries in all three international formats.
He played 110 T20 internationals for Australia, scoring more than 3,200 runs, including one century.
His record in franchise cricket is even more extensive. Warner has played 439 T20 matches, scoring more than 14,000 runs, including 10 centuries and 118 fifties.
He has featured in some of the world’s biggest T20 leagues, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), The Hundred in England, Major League Cricket in the United States, Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and Vitality Blast.
An official announcement from the NPL franchise and the league regarding Warner’s participation is still awaited.
