South African batter David Miller, who has signed with Karnali Yaks, has arrived in Nepal to play in the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
The 37-year-old left-handed middle-order batter landed at Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday morning. Representatives of Karnali Yaks Sports Pvt Ltd welcomed him at the airport.
Miller has made his mark in international cricket for South Africa and in several major franchise leagues around the world.
He has played in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Australia’s Big Bash League, the Pakistan Super League and several other competitions. In the IPL, he has represented Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI Punjab and Gujarat Titans. He was one of the key players when Gujarat Titans won their maiden IPL title in 2022.
Grihendra Ghimire, chairman of Karnali Yaks Sports Pvt Ltd, said Miller’s arrival would also contribute to promoting Nepal as a tourism destination.
Miller has scored 2,804 runs in 140 T20 internationals for South Africa, including two centuries and nine half-centuries. He scored his two T20I centuries against India and Bangladesh.
Across 584 T20 matches, he has accumulated 12,435 runs, with four centuries and 53 half-centuries.
Miller made headlines in 2017 when he scored a century off just 35 balls against Bangladesh, setting a record at the time. He also scored a 38-ball century for Punjab against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL.
Karnali Yaks have played three matches in the NPL, which began on October 26. They have won two of those games, beating Janakpur by 19 runs in their opening match and Biratnagar by four wickets in their second. They lost their third match to Kathmandu Gorkhas by four wickets.
Karnali will next face Sudurpaschim Royals on Friday, with Miller expected to feature in the match.
