Darbarmarg rape case: ‘Boyfriend’ sentenced to five years in jail

File: Shailesh Karki

Kathmandu, November 13

Concluding the long trial over a 2018 January rape case, the Kathmandu District Court has handed down a five-year-and-two-month jail sentence to the convict. A bench of Judge Kamal Prasad Pokharel sent Shailesh Karki, the main suspect of the rape case taken place at Hotel Landmark of Darbarmarg, to jail for five years and two months.

Likewise, the court ordered that he pay Rs 700,000 compensation to the victim. During the police investigation, it was found that Karki was in a relationship with the victim. However, he and his friends–Deepak Shrestha and Bikas Gautam–had gang-raped the victim.

Shrestha and Gautam have been sent to jail for one year and two months.

While the investigation was underway, the perpetrators had tried to avoid the trial by paying Rs 3 million to the victim and bribing police officers.
