The government had created a separate position of ‘special security adviser’ for Dan Bahadur Karki after removing him as Inspector General of Nepal Police.
But Karki did not go to Singha Durbar on Thursday to receive his appointment letter for the newly created post under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. Instead, he approached the Supreme Court with a petition challenging the government’s decision.
A Cabinet meeting held just a day earlier had removed Karki as police chief and appointed Dr Manoj Kumar KC as his successor.
The same meeting decided to create a new position for Karki, placing him under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
However, Dan Bahadur Karki did not report to the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday.
According to Hem Raj Aryal, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, arrangements have also been made for Karki to have an office there.
Aryal said the office had sufficient rooms to accommodate advisers to the prime minister, secretaries and other officials.
“We always have additional rooms in the office. We make arrangements for the offices of additional secretaries, secretaries and other officials as needed. A room must have been arranged for the security adviser as part of that process,” he said.
According to sources at the Prime Minister’s Office, Dan Bahadur Karki has been assigned Room No. 207.
Sources said he would receive facilities equivalent to those provided to a secretary of the Nepal government. Government secretaries are generally provided with their own office, a vehicle and security arrangements.
