Dailekh local govt leader, his wife abducted at midnight; police suspect Biplav’s hand

Dailekh, December 22

The chairman of Thantikandhu rural municipality in Dailekh district and his wife were abducted around one hour after the midnight, police in the remote district in Karnali province inform.

Assistant chief district officer Indra Bahadur Chhetri says Dhir Bahadur Shahi and his wife Ila were abducted at around 1 am in the wee hours today. An unidentified gang arrived at their house in Shreepata, ward 2 of the rural municipality, and took them away, he says. Government authorities and security agencies are yet to find out the couple’s whereabouts. “We are looking into the issue after receiving information,” he says.

Police, however, suspected that the banned Maoist party led by Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ might have abducted them. Just a few days ago, the party’s local cadres had kidnapped Dhir Bahadur’s younger brother, Hasta Bahadur.

Dhir Bahadur’s wife works as a teacher.
