Russia and Ukraine have claimed that their emergency warning systems have been targeted by cyberattacks.
Hackers sent fake alerts to citizens in both countries, triggering panic among people for some time. The messages included warnings about radiation threats and nuclear attacks.
Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said its alert applications had come under a large-scale cyberattack.
According to the ministry, hackers could have used the attack to send false information. However, it clarified that the country’s public alert system was functioning normally.
Similarly, reports have emerged that fake warnings were sent through Ukraine’s air raid alert application following an alleged cyberattack.
Ukraine’s Centre for Strategic Communications has blamed Russia for the cyberattack. In a post on the social media platform X, the organisation also shared images of some of the alerts displayed on Ukraine’s air raid application.
