Covid-19 Nepal: 3 of the single family in Butwal die in 1 week

Butwal, May 27

Three members of the same family have died of Covid-19 in a span of one week in Butwal, Rupandehi of the Lumbini province.

In the second week of May, two members of the family–a 55-year-old woman and her 39-year-old son–had contracted Covid-19. The man was admitted to the Universal Medical College after his health deteriorated whereas the mother was fine in home isolation.

However, it was the mother who died first–on May 19.

In the meantime, the 55-year-old woman’s 69-year-old husband also tested positive for the virus. He was admitted to the Universal Medical College.

The son died during treatment on May 21 whereas the father breathed his last on Wednesday, May 26.

“We have made sure that there was not any shortage of bed, oxygen, medicines and money for them,” Padam Bahadur Thapa, the Butwal-10 ward chairperson and the deceased’s neighour says, “But, we could not save him.”

“The son was youthful and healthy. We had hoped he would defeat the virus,” another neighbour says, “But, his death teaches us that even healthy youth should be aware.”

The son’s wife, 39, is also infected and is in isolation whereas her six-year-old son is not infected yet.
