Kathmandu, September 7

Cadres of Madhesh-based political parties have burnt CPN-UML leader Shankar Pokharel in effigies as part of protests against his controversial remarks on Madheshi peoples’ complexion.

On Wednesday morning, they burnt effigies of Pokharel at BP Chok in Rautahat district headquarters Gaur, accusing him of hurting the sentiments of Madheshi communities through his tweet over observance of Asoj 3 as a black day.

Meanwhile, Durga Mani Subedi, under secretary-general of Socialist Youth Forum-Nepal, said he will take the case to the court as police (Metropolitan Police Circle, Kathmandu) refused to register his complaint against Pokharel.

After a fierce protest in social networking sites against his tweet, Pokharel had deleted it. He had said Madheshi parties were disrespecting Madheshi peoples by calling the day of protest as ‘black day’.
