Ward-level conventions of the Nepali Congress have been completed in 69 of the 72 wards in Rolpa under the party’s 15th General Convention.
The conventions, held on September 19 and 20, elected ward committees unanimously in all 69 wards, according to the Nepali Congress Rolpa. Conventions could not be held in the remaining three wards within the scheduled timeframe.
Sudeep Gautam, Rolpa district election officer for the 15th General Convention, said 24 regional representatives, along with ward presidents, were also elected unopposed from the 69 wards.
According to Gautam, around 97 per cent of the ward conventions in Rolpa were completed in a peaceful and cordial environment.
“We have completed around 97 per cent of the ward conventions in Rolpa. Conventions could not be held in only three wards, or around three per cent,” he said.
The ward presidents elected in Rolpa Municipality are Karnapal Gharti in Ward 1, Bhuwaneshwar Acharya in Ward 2, Lil Bahadur Roka Magar in Ward 3, Jamalal Roka Magar in Ward 4, Rak Bahadur Mahara in Ward 5, Deusin Gharti Magar in Ward 6, Kumarsingh Budha Magar in Ward 7, Padam Wali in Ward 8, Jhakku Prasad Wali in Ward 9 and Giriraj Thapa in Ward 10.
In Sunil Smriti Rural Municipality, Mohan Bhandari, Rajendra Singh Thakuri, Tularam Bisht, Narayan Bisht, Shuklal Thapa, Shalikram KC, Reshamlal Seti Mahar and Bhuma Pun were elected ward presidents in Wards 1 through 8, respectively.
In Lungri Rural Municipality, ward presidents were elected in Wards 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7. Jhakamn Gharti Magar, Rajendra Khadka, Dor Bahadur Bisht, Tilak Bahadur Bisht, Anjana Malla Thakuri and Thaman Bahadur Gharti Magar were elected, respectively.
Ward presidents were also elected in all seven wards of Sun Chhahari Rural Municipality.
In Thabang Rural Municipality, Dumey Roka Magar, Ramkaji Roka and Kulman Roka Magar were elected ward presidents in Wards 3, 4 and 5, respectively.
Likewise, ward-level conventions were completed in all wards of Parivartan, Madi, Gangadev, Triveni and Runtigadhi rural municipalities.
3 wards could not hold conventions
Although the party had scheduled ward conventions for September 19 and 20, conventions could not be held in three wards of Rolpa.
Nepali Congress Rolpa Secretary Sher Bahadur Thapa said the convention could not be held in Lungri Rural Municipality-3 due to internal and technical problems. He said conventions in Thabang Rural Municipality-1 and 2 could not be held because of the low number of active party members.
“We have completed around 97 per cent of the ward conventions. In all the wards where the conventions were held, ward presidents and other office-bearers were elected unopposed. Conventions could not be held in three wards within the scheduled timeframe due to some problems,” Thapa said.
Thabang Rural Municipality-1’s Thulo Gaun and Ward 2’s Jhakebang are also known as places associated with the origins of the communist movement.
The next phase of the Nepali Congress’s 15th General Convention, involving rural municipalities, municipalities, sub-metropolitan cities and metropolitan cities, is being held on Wednesday.
