Comrade Bamdev should not contest by-elections: Bishnu Paudel

Kathmandu, October 11

Former Minister and Nepal Communist Party General Secretary Bishnu Paudel says senior leader Bamdev Gautam, who is preparing to contest by-elections in Kathmandu-7, will not do so.

In an interview with Onlinekhabar, Paudel said that reactions to report that Gautam made Kathmandu-7 MP Rambir Manandhar step down to pave way for by-elections are not positive. “I met comrade Bamdev and I have suggested him not to contest by-elections.”

Paudel said, “Comrade Bamdev has not taken his defeat in Bardiya graciously. The party even formed a committee to look into the reasons for his defeat,” added Paudel. The party leadership was in a mood to consider his proposal to hold by-elections at a favourable time, said the former minister. “The party’s secretariat had even discussed this earlier.”

“I now think that comrade Bamdev should drop the whole idea now. The events in the last few days have only tarnished his and the party’s image,” he said.
